In a pool or a reservoir a 0.5x 0.5 m chessboard is installed at a depth of 2 meters.A chess clock is placed alongside one of the pool edges and a big display chessboard is installed on the opposite side of the poolRules of the game:In the beginning of the game the judge hits the clock button on the side of the player with the black pieces. This starts the other player’s timer. At this point the player with the white pieces swims to the diving line by the pool’s wall, dives in and down to the chessboard and makes his move. The player then swims or dives back toward the clock and presses his button to start the timer of his opponent. The blitz games are usually 5-8 minutes per player per game. The time may be set as needed depending on the players’ age and the size of the pool. The game ends if one player runs out of time (the clock flag falls), or is checkmated, or if a player signals that he resigns by waving his hand. There are no draws.A player earns 2 points for checkmating his opponent, 1 point if the opponent’s time runs out before he is checkmated, or if the judge disqualifies the opponent.Boris Altshuller is the chief coach at the Sports Club ‘Amphibian’ in Ramat Gan, Israel. He is the creator of the athletic and intellectual game ‘Waterblitz’.The first practice games were held in October 2006, and the first Club competitiontook place in April 2007.
